We have added direct Gmail support into Paprika to make it easier to send emails via a Gmail or Google account. Please update to version 3.6.4 or later in order to enable this option.
Please note that these instructions only apply to the macOS version of Paprika and require macOS Catalina or later.
(You can always update to the latest version via the Updates tab of the Mac App Store.)
1. Under Paprika's Settings -> Email -> Send Email With, select Gmail.
2. Press the Setup Account button.
3. Select or login to your Gmail account using your web browser.
4. Click Allow to grant Paprika permission to send email on your behalf. (Make sure the check box is checked.)
5. On the confirmation screen, click Allow again to confirm your choice.
6. Close your browser tab and return to Paprika.
Note: if you press the Setup Account button in step 2 and nothing happens, you may need to set your default web browser to Safari under System Preferences -> General. We have seen this happen occasionally if the default web browser is set to a third-party browser instead of Safari.
If you are using macOS Mojave or earlier, you will need to use the SMTP Server option instead.
Make sure your email settings are configured as follows:
- Email: user@gmail.com (your actual Gmail address)
- SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 587
- Username: user@gmail.com (your actual Gmail address)
- Password: (your password)
- SSL: STARTTLS
If you're still having trouble, check the settings below:
1. If you have two-factor authentication enabled on your Gmail account you may receive the following error when emailing recipes from Paprika:
"A stable connection to the server could not be established."
To resolve this error, you will need to generate an application-specific password for Paprika. This can be done here:
https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords
To learn more about application passwords, see here:

2. If you do not have two-factor authentication enabled on your Gmail account and you receive this error message, you may need to do the following:
Go to your account security settings here:
https://myaccount.google.com/security
Scroll down to "Connected apps & sites" and set "Allow less secure apps" to ON.
